This type of laser, commonly referred to as an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) laser, is commonly known as an Alex or an IPL laser. While safe for almost all skin tones and types, its performance excels particularly with darker complexions due to the 755nm wavelength being less readily absorbed by melanin; making this laser more suitable than others in treating darker complexions.

Diode and Nd: YAG lasers may also be effective at hair removal; these may be better suited for darker skin tones due to shorter wavelengths that do not penetrate deeply enough into the epidermis to disable progenitor cells responsible for hair growth.
