Acne is one of the most widespread skin conditions in North America, caused when hair follicles become blocked with too many normal skin cells that combine with sebum (an oily substance produced naturally to lubricate hair and skin) and release their contents, leading to pores expanding further and ultimately pimple formation. Luckily, effective acne treatments exist that may help.

At an initial consultation, a dermatologist can help patients understand which treatments will be most suitable to meet their unique needs. They may suggest prescription or over-the-counter acne medication, chemical peels, laser and light therapy treatments, microdermabrasion or surgical procedures as suitable options. Furthermore, guidance regarding proper skincare practices and diet may also help ensure greater results from treatments.

Dermatologists specialize in treating various skin conditions, and also perform mohs surgery – an advanced and precise technique for removing skin cancer. This procedure can save lives by enabling doctors to identify and eliminate the most dangerous cancerous cells – this approach being especially useful for people suffering from melanoma – one of the deadliest forms of skin cancer.

Skin Rejuvenation

Skin rejuvenation treatments provide cosmetic solutions to make the face and skin appear younger by improving its natural glow. Rejuvenation treatments such as light therapy, chemical peels and laser resurfacing may reduce fine lines, sun damage and scarring while simultaneously improving natural glow of the skin. Consulting with an experienced provider is often recommended in order to identify which options best meet your desired results.

At your skin rejuvenation consultation, the doctor will review your medical history in depth in order to ascertain any potential effects these treatments might have on you and how they could alter the composition of your skin type. They will also conduct a physical exam in order to assess its condition as well as identify areas you would like to target with cosmetic procedures.

Dark spots or age spots are an all too familiar problem for many individuals, often manifested through prolonged sun exposure and producing pigmented cells in response. Most commonly found on areas exposed to more sunlight – including faces and hands. Luckily, however, these spots can easily be eliminated using skin rejuvenation treatments such as laser resurfacing to rejuvenate and rejuvenate skin rejuvenation treatments like laser resurfacing.

Laser resurfacing treatments like those provided at sk:n with Erbium YAG or CO2RE lasers have the power to minimize age spots while evening out your complexion by eliminating excess pigment and smoothing its complexion. Furthermore, this technique stimulates collagen production which leads to reduced wrinkles and an overall refreshed appearance.

As we age, our bodies produce less collagen each year and this can result in thinner and dryer skin. Skin rejuvenation treatments like Fractional CO2 Laser Eyelid Tightening and Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 treatments can reduce wrinkles by tightening loose skin around the eyes or clearing away blockages in pores; eliminating fine lines altogether or just diminishing them altogether.

Light therapies, like the Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) system offered at sk:n, provide gentler options for skin resurfacing. IPL treatments deliver multiple wavelengths of light directly onto the second layer of skin without damaging it, targeting discolorations from brown spots to redness without harming or scarring existing tissue. IPL systems can also help individuals looking to eliminate acne scars without resorting to surgery.

Skin Cancer Treatments

Most skin cancers are caused by overexposure to sunlight. Common types include basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma; with the latter often being more serious. Most can be successfully treated if detected early; you can help by regularly checking your own skin for changes, especially moles or growths that appear suddenly or change shape; seeing your doctor immediately if any new moles appear or change appear – they will then look for signs of cancerous growths before conducting a biopsy test to ensure effective care is given if needed.

Our team of dermatologists specialize in treating melanoma and other forms of skin cancer, all board certified with years of experience detecting and treating this disease. Additionally, we provide access to a nurse practitioner with extensive expertise in managing patients diagnosed with melanoma as well as oncology-related skin issues.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal works to diminish unwanted body hair by targeting pigmented parts of your hair with pulses of energy that target its pigmented parts, breaking up and dissolving them to stop future growth and create a smoother complexion. Results will depend on factors like skin complexion, coarseness of the hair and hormonal influences – while some new growth may still appear after treatment, the majority should have been permanently eliminated.

Step One of this procedure begins with a consultation and evaluation of the area you would like treated, as well as taking a detailed clinical history to understand symptoms and source of hirsutism. A gynecological exam may be recommended in order to assess any hormonal influences on treatment outcomes.

Before we begin the procedure, our medical aesthetician will clean and apply numbing gel to the area being treated, while providing protective eyewear to shield your eyes from laser light. Once numbing is applied, a handheld device presses against your skin to trigger laser energy; you may feel stings similar to pinpricks during this process – depending on its size this could take anywhere from minutes up to an hour for larger areas.

As soon as the laser activates and begins destroying hairs, you might experience a slight puff of smoke or burning sensation; these should quickly subside along with any redness or swelling in your area.

Utilizing cutting-edge technology, we offer safe and effective hair removal treatments for the face and body. These procedures can be performed on all skin tones and colors – even darkly colored hair that was difficult to treat with conventional methods – making us proud to offer this to all of our patients, particularly those who may have struggled to find success using other hair removal methods. In addition, touch-up treatments once every year help maintain hair reduction results – we welcome you to contact our Winston-Salem office to arrange a free consultation today!
