One client looking to permanently eliminate white hair on her neck was advised by a laser hair removal center to dye them black before employing laser on them.
Electrolysis remains the only permanent and safe solution to remove unwanted hair permanently and safely. Lasers only target pigmentation while electrolysis offers permanent hair removal.
Waxing
Waxing is an effective and safe way to remove facial hair. Unlike shaving or hair removal creams, waxing leaves your skin with a soft feel that leaves no scars behind – plus, waxing slows the regrowth process considerably!
Before waxing, it is essential to make sure that your hair is at an appropriate length. In general, trim the length to between one-fourth to three-fourths of an inch prior to getting waxing done for maximum effectiveness and minimal discomfort and messiness. Furthermore, use of creams containing retinol or prescription retinoids prior to getting your wax done may increase discomfort during hair removal and make for less effective waxing sessions.
Before waxing, the area should be washed thoroughly to remove dirt and dead skin cells, followed by applying thin layers of wax over it in thin layers. Once applied, a strip will be laid over it and pulled off to extract hairs from their follicles; strips may be hard, soft or strip-free depending on personal preferences for texture and type of hair and skin. The type of wax you select must match both this requirement as well as suit its texture/type of your own body hair/skin combination.
Comparative to shaving, waxing will produce smooth and silky skin for longer. This is due to shaving only removing hair at its surface; waxing removes it at its roots resulting in much finer and sparser regrowth of hairs than when shaving alone is performed.
Waxing will also reduce future growth of white hairs as it causes hair follicles to weaken over time and stop producing coarse and thick locks.
Waxing should always be performed by trained estheticians for optimal results. A good esthetician will know exactly how and how often to apply the wax, while exfoliation after waxing should continue at least weekly, to prevent ingrown hairs and complications such as ingrowns. Furthermore, making sure the area stays moisturized after each wax or shave will help avoid itching and rashes in addition to keeping itchy skin at bay.
Threading
Threading, an ancient hair removal method, is ideal for small areas such as your brows and upper lip. “Threading uses a loop of twisted thread to gently pluck out hair at its source,” states Umbreen Sheikh of Wink Brow Bar in New York City. When pulled, this “lassos the hair from its root follicle and pulls it out.”
Threading involves your esthetician folding 11 inches worth of thread in half and twisting it, before inserting one hand at each end of the loop and rotating it 6-7 times. They will open and close their fingers in your right hand in order to move it down while using those from your left hand to bring it back up again – as they do this, their twisted portion of thread will grab any loose hairs that come loose before plucking them out with ease.
Waxing can be an ideal alternative for sensitive skin because it does not involve chemical-laden waxes touching their skin; only cotton thread touches it instead. Furthermore, threading has proven more accurate and more importantly can catch those “tiny, barely perceptible straggling hairs” often missed by traditional waxing products. Brow expert Joey Healy recommends threading as a viable way of hair removal for sensitive areas.
However, threading can be costly and difficult to master; therefore it is best left in the hands of professionals. Threading can usually be found at salons or spas and its precise nature makes it ideal for shaping eyebrows rather than full removal (although other parts of your face may also benefit).
Threading leaves your skin looking healthier than other hair removal methods, though it may irritate slightly more sensitive areas than waxing does. Since professional appointments need to be scheduled every 4-6 weeks, you can tweeze away straggling hairs between professional sessions using your own threading kit available from most beauty supply stores; typically made of polyester or cotton and equipped with either plastic or metal handles for ease of use.
Epilation
If you have white hair and would like a long-term solution, epilation could be an option worth exploring. Epilation is an established technique which removes hair at its source – with results lasting up to four weeks after each session. While initially painful, over time you will become adept at performing the procedure and improve your technique until it no longer causes pain.
Epilation involves the removal of facial and body hair using either a mechanical device, tweezers, or waxing to permanently eliminate it from facial and body surfaces. While more permanent than shaving or depilatory creams, epilation can be more costly; you should look for one with no ingrown hairs or skin irritation, such as reading reviews to find one suitable to your needs.
Before epilating, it’s advisable to soak your face in lukewarm water in order to soften hair follicles and help avoid ingrown hairs. Also avoid moisturizers or lotions which could impede this process.
Once you are ready to epilate, apply a small amount of sugaring or waxing paste on the area where you wish to remove hair, and carefully pull away each individual strand in the opposite direction from its growth – this will protect both you and your skin from irritation or burns.
Waxing and epilating both work to remove hair at its source, but their methods vary slightly. Waxing involves heating a formula of wax to the appropriate temperature before applying strips to hair roots using waxing kits, while epilating involves use of electric machinery with precise precision for pinpoint results and experience.
Laser removal of white hairs is another advanced and costly option, yet highly effective way to treat them. Lasers target pigment in hair, disabling it and stopping further growth altogether.
Facial Spring
White hair is often associated with ageing or hereditary conditions, making it undesirable when visible on your face. But no need to live with unwanted white hairs as there are several safe and effective treatments available that can help eliminate them quickly.
Some of the more effective techniques for removing white facial hair include shaving, waxing, depilatory creams and epilation – but there’s one method that truly stands out: electrolysis.
Home and professional epilation is a safe, noninvasive way of permanently eliminating light or fine hair that cannot be removed using other techniques like laser or IPL because they lack melanin pigmentation. A tiny needle inserted into each of your follicles destroys them to completely eradicate them permanently – an extremely safe and permanent method. Additionally, this procedure works effectively at eliminating light hair that laser or IPL alone cannot effectively treat due to lacking melanin pigment.
Waxing is the go-to way of eliminating white hairs, but it can be painful if your skin is sensitive. In order to prepare your skin, be sure to thoroughly cleanse it with hot water before applying a moisturizing cream layer before you begin waxing.
Hair Removal Springs provide another method of hair removal. A facial spring consists of a metal spring coiled between two rubber handles that is then rolled across your facial region where hair needs to be eliminated. When this spring grabs on to individual strands of hair and pulls them from their roots – similar to threading but much faster and precise; you may experience some initial prickling sensation when first used but this eventually subsides.
If your forehead, cheeks or chin has developed thick white facial hair that needs to be addressed quickly and efficiently, using an epilator may be the way forward. An epilator is an electric device designed specifically for using on both body hair and facial hair; an epilator should prove less painful than waxing and more effective than shaving as it removes hair at its source; when used after shaving or waxing has failed. Furthermore, once epilated using an epilator the regrowth will likely be significantly lighter in colour and shorter than before using an epilator.
