Before your laser hair removal appointment, our medical professionals advise shave the area to ensure your hair is at an appropriate length for treatment. Otherwise, the laser won’t be able to properly target hair follicles.
Shaving in between treatments is essential as it will dramatically slow the regrowth of hair. By shaving just once or twice monthly instead of multiple times each week, it will allow you to reduce hair regrowth by over 60%!
Shaving
People often assume that one laser hair removal session will produce permanent results and end their need to shave, however this is simply not the case. Multiple treatments will need to be administered for any lasting results to show. Each hair is in different stages of growth cycle and lasers work best on actively growing strands – meaning your hair may continue to grow between sessions, yet should no longer need shaving.
Laser treatments offer an alternative to hair removal methods that require frequent usage and cause razor burns, with their targeted laser beam destroying hair follicles at their root. But in order for it to do its job effectively, the hair needs to be visible for it to target it properly; to make this possible it’s essential that no shaving, plucking or waxing occur prior to an appointment as this could render any future treatments ineffective or force more delays down the line. If that occurs then your appointment could have to be postponed by several weeks so we can target it using our laser.
If you choose to shave before or after your laser treatment, please do so as lightly as possible. Your skin may be sensitive post-treatment and an aggressive shave could cause irreparable damage. Also, we advise against exfoliating for four to five days post-treatment; this will enable faster healing while still allowing hair destroyed by laser to shed naturally.
Shaving is safe after laser hair removal treatment, but proper shaving technique should be implemented to avoid damaging your skin and enable laser light to reach each individual hair more easily. We advise using a razor with sharp blade and quality shaving cream or gel. Furthermore, be sure to moisturize after each shave to maintain healthy skin!
Laser hair removal requires that you refrain from waxing before or after treatments; however, you can continue using tweezers and pluckers between sessions. Waxing removes hair directly from its root follicle, making it impossible for lasers to target that follicle properly in future sessions.
Waxing
Laser hair removal can be an excellent long-term solution for those who are fed up with shaving or waxing and seeking permanent results. To obtain maximum effectiveness from this procedure, it’s crucial to adhere precisely to your treatment schedule if you want the best outcomes possible; otherwise, hair follicles won’t become damaged enough to stop producing new hair, negating any hope for reduction of unwanted body hair growth.
Before your laser hair removal appointment, it is wise to refrain from shaving, plucking and using sunless skin creams in the area to be treated as this may alter its color and prevent laser from targeting hair follicles effectively. Also try limiting sun exposure or tanning lines as this could alter how your body absorbs laser energy.
Make sure to avoid taking medications that could increase bleeding or make you sensitive to laser heat, such as aspirin and anti-inflammatory drugs, that could increase bleeding or make you sensitive to its heat – including vitamin E supplements that could have an effect on blood flow in your body. You should also be prepared for some discomfort during this procedure – you may feel like something snaps against your skin or like sunburn-like sensations from laser light hitting hair follicles targeted for removal.
Laser hair removal typically requires four sessions spaced four weeks apart to achieve their desired results, though you may require extra treatments if your hair is dark or thicker than usual. You might also require annual touch-up sessions in order to maintain them.
If you are considering laser hair removal, it is recommended to visit a specialist. They can assess both your skin and hair types before suggesting treatments tailored specifically for you. In some instances, free consultations may also be offered, giving an ideal opportunity to ask any pertinent questions as well as learn more about the process and plan your desired number of sessions needed for optimal results.
Moisturizer
Laser hair removal may be a suitable alternative for those who have become exhausted with shaving or waxing; it provides effective relief while still taking proper care to look after their skin throughout. But remember, you will still require proper skin care during and post procedure in order to maximize results from laser treatment.
Use of appropriate products will help your skin appear healthy and flawless. To prevent over-drying of the skin, choose a moisturizer designed specifically for your skin type; perfumed moisturizers could potentially irritate sensitive skin types.
Prior to every laser session, it’s also essential that you use a gentle cleanser. Be sure to remove all makeup, deodorant and lotions or potions from the area being treated before your appointment and always apply at least SPF 30 sunscreen before leaving home.
After your laser treatment, the first few days after treatment are essential to its success. The heat from the laser has opened your pores, leaving it susceptible to infections and tender. Therefore, taking hot showers or baths should be avoided in favor of cool-to-lukewarm ones in order to avoid your pores becoming blocked up with impurities.
After receiving laser hair removal treatment, it is also important to avoid other hair removal methods for at least several weeks following. Waxing, plucking and most other hair removal products or services can damage both skin and follicles as they seek to extract hairs below the surface – however shaving remains acceptable since only its hair follicles will be affected by it.
After your laser hair removal session, it is normal for your skin to become red and swollen; this should resolve itself within several days. To speed the healing process up faster, exfoliate once dead hairs begin falling out from their sockets.
Moisturizing between laser hair removal treatments requires only using mild and fragrance-free lotion. Be wary of products containing SPF, fragrance or aloe vera as these may leave your skin feeling irritated after each session. This will also prevent irritation.
Sunscreen
As soon as possible after laser hair removal treatment, use a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 protection and apply it frequently to protect yourself. Also avoid tanning beds and spray on tans as these contain ingredients which could irritate or further sensitize your skin, already sensitive from removal treatments.
Avoid sun exposure after laser hair removal treatments as well. Your skin can become particularly delicate after receiving laser therapy, making direct sunlight exposure particularly hazardous to its wellbeing and possibly leading to hyperpigmentation or skin cancer. Therefore it is recommended that direct sunlight exposure be limited for two or three weeks after each laser session.
Before receiving laser hair removal treatments, shaven is the recommended form of hair removal, but waxing or plucking your locks could compromise their effectiveness and cause unnecessary skin sensitivity. Furthermore, you should avoid products like sunless tanning creams and bronzers as these could make your skin vulnerable.
After your laser hair removal sessions, be sure to protect your skin by regularly applying sunscreen with an SPF 30 to 100 rating and applying it frequently. This will prevent UV rays from damaging your skin and increasing the frequency of future laser hair removal sessions.
After your laser hair removal treatment, it is wise to stay away from heat treatments like hot showers, baths and saunas to prevent your pores from opening up and potentially irritating the skin. Instead, take warm or lukewarm baths instead and avoid steam rooms until a few days have passed since your laser session.
Following laser hair removal treatments, it is normal for some of your hairs to start falling out as soon as they have fully grown out – this indicates that the treatments are working. While it may be tempting to shave them immediately after treatment has finished, waiting could save both time and irritants in the form of redness and itching caused by shaving prematurely.
Keep in mind that hair follicles take several weeks to regrow after laser treatments, so in the meantime it is a good idea to maintain your grooming routine with caution and continue shaving as usual.
