Laser hair removal of face is a safe and effective solution for permanently eliminating facial hair growth, relieving you of shaving or waxing efforts and the associated inconvenience.

Make sure your provider uses equipment suitable for your skin type and hair color to avoid disappointing results and complications.

Treatment Areas

Laser hair removal may not be permanent, but it does significantly slow hair growth. Most clients require 6-12 treatments for optimal results; due to hormonal influences on hair growth rate it’s wise to schedule touch-up sessions annually with your medspa to make sure that treatment is working effectively.

Laser treatment uses pulses of light to break up dark pigmentation in your hair follicle, eliminating the need for shaving, waxing and depilatory creams while cutting down time spent removing unwanted hair as well as potentially alleviating skin conditions such as ingrown hairs or discoloration.

At your treatment appointment, a numbing gel may be applied to the skin. If you take medications that are photosensitive, consult with your physician about stopping them at least one week prior. Retinoids and alpha hydroxyl acids which increase skin cell turnover could make you more sensitive to light.

Before your laser treatment starts, your face will be cleansed thoroughly before donning goggles and spreading numbing gel onto the area being treated. Once this has taken effect, a licensed esthetician will initiate the procedure which may take as little as several minutes, depending on its size.

After your treatment, hair follicles will shed and fall off of the skin, sometimes giving an illusion that further growth has occurred. To protect against this possibility, always wear sunscreen with SPF 30+ sunscreen protection every day and limit sun exposure.

Laser hair removal treatments may not guarantee permanent hair removal due to melanin’s ability to absorb light from lasers and change its color, leading to possible darkening or lightening in subsequent growth of facial hair (rare). However, scientific research has proven laser hair removal to be one of the most effective means of permanently eliminating facial hair.

Preparation

Laser hair removal for the face is an efficient, safe, and long-term way to get rid of peach fuzz or unwanted stubble on your face – an excellent alternative to shaving or waxing every day! Laser is also great way of getting rid of unwanted eyelash hair!

Prior to laser hair removal, it’s crucial that the skin be prepared. Avoid sun exposure or tanning as laser treatment won’t work effectively on such skin and could potentially cause pigmentation issues. Also avoid self-tan lotions and sprays for at least two weeks prior to treatment so as to not interfere with results.

At the start of treatment, a dermatologist will apply a cooling gel or device to protect your skin from the heat of the laser, before pressing the laser instrument against your skin and activating it to send out a beam of light targeting hair follicles and tissue around them. When activated, its light energy heats melanin material present within hair follicles which damages them enough to stop producing new hairs.

After your procedure, it is normal for the area being treated to experience redness or swelling; this should disappear within several hours. Hydrocortisone cream or aloe vera could be useful in alleviating discomfort; additionally it would be prudent to switch over to using zinc oxide-based sunscreen protection in order to safeguard treated skin against harmful UV rays from the sun.

Once the area has healed, you’ll enjoy smooth and hair-free skin for months or years! Hair growth tends to diminish over time after multiple treatments; therefore you will likely require maintenance sessions once or twice annually for ongoing results.

Procedure

First step to safe facial laser hair removal is finding an experienced provider. Verify they meet standards in training, skill and insurance before scheduling a consultation to discuss options and expectations with them. Your practitioner will review your medical history as well as inspect any areas where unwanted hair might grow to determine if treatment would be effective.

Practitioners will first cleanse the area and apply a numbing gel to reduce discomfort. You’ll then need to wear goggles for added protection before the laser beam passes over it and heat from its beam destroys hair follicles to stop their production of hair – eventually leading to permanent hair stoppage; multiple rounds may be needed before being noticeable; thereafter you should need annual maintenance sessions to keep hair growth at bay.

After receiving treatment, it’s wise to avoid direct sunlight as your skin will likely be more sensitive. You may experience itching or redness of the skin for up to two days following a session; during that time it should subside on its own. You should still resume normal activities; however it would be prudent to refrain from strenuous exercises or hot showers until these symptoms have subsided.

Dependent upon your skin and hair type, laser treatment sessions typically take anywhere between minutes and an hour, depending on the number of treatments needed. Although it does depend on individual needs, generally laser is quicker and longer-lasting than shaving, plucking, waxing or electrolysis in terms of time savings and long-term effects.

Misconceptions about laser hair removal often arise, with people mistaking it for being permanent. While your hair will eventually regrowth, it will usually grow much thinner and lighter than before. Your doctor may suggest regular maintenance sessions to maintain results as long as possible; some individuals may need treatment every four weeks while others only require one visit every year or so. Laser treatments offer an affordable alternative to waxing and shaving that save you money in the long run by eliminating product usage as well as visits to salons.

Recovery

Laser hair removal of the face is a safe and effective solution to unwanted facial hair. Plus, its results are permanent; no more regrowth or dealing with ingrown hairs! Laser removal removes vellus hair that usually only appears on women, eliminating the need for waxing, shaving or plucking altogether.

Before your treatment starts, we will wipe down the area to be treated and apply topical numbing gel for maximum comfort. You will also be provided with goggles as we recommend avoiding sun exposure prior to receiving your laser treatments; they don’t work well when applied on tanned skin.

During the procedure, a cooling system will be applied to your skin as the laser’s light energy passes through it. Depending on the size and depth of your treatment area, this may take between one hour and more than that to complete. After your session you may experience redness, swelling or bumps which should dissipate quickly – you may use cooling aloe vera gel or lotion to relieve these side effects quickly.

Once your treatment is complete, you should be able to resume normal activities immediately. However, tanning and hair-removal methods should be avoided for several weeks following your session; similarly hot shower or bath water could cause irritation, so for optimal results lukewarm or cool water is ideal for showering and bathing after your session.

Keep away from makeup or perfumed skincare products that could irritate the skin after laser treatments, such as makeup or perfumed soaps, perfumed facial cleansers or exfoliation products that could aggravate and slow healing processes. Instead, select a gentle facial cleanser free from alcohol to cleanse effectively instead. Avoid exfoliation as this could further irritate and disrupt healing.

Soon after your first few sessions, you should notice that unwanted hair is growing back slower or not at all. Most people need around six laser hair removal treatments in order to achieve long-term results; in order to maintain them you should schedule regular sessions every four or six weeks.
