The Procedure

Laser hair removal is a safe, effective method for eliminating unwanted hair. A laser emits light that absorbs pigment (melanin) found in hair shafts to convert into heat energy that eventually stops future hair growth. Small areas may take as little as 10 minutes while more expansive regions such as backs or legs could take up to an hour for treatment.

Topical numbing cream may be applied topically in order to lessen any discomfort during treatments with laser hair removal devices. A laser device will then pass repeatedly over the treatment area in order to target all hair follicles at their locations; similar to snapping rubber bands on skin. Eye protection must be worn during laser light treatments for added safety.

The CO2 laser has become one of the most sought-after treatments for fine lines and wrinkles, surgical scarring, tightening the skin, reducing pigmentation issues and acne scarring, as well as helping fade sun damage such as brown spots or redness. It provides quick, comfortable treatments with noticeable improvements to skin tone.

Laser therapy has also proven useful in treating hidradenitis suppurativa, an incurable and chronic skin disease characterized by lesions beneath sweat glands on armpits, groin or buttocks that often result in blocked hair follicles preventing the production of sweat. Lasers have proven especially helpful at breaking down such obstructions to flow and clearing pores quickly enough that symptoms have diminished dramatically.

Alma’s Soprano Laser, one of the latest generation laser devices, utilizes multiple wavelengths to target various skin colors and hair types – making it one of the most flexible laser technologies available. Each wavelength targets various chromophores which give skin and hair their color; 755nm, 808nm and 1064nm are some of these chromophores; the Soprano is unique in that all three are simultaneously utilized to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety across all skin tones and types.

The Results

At your appointment, we use laser devices to use laser devices to permanently reduce unwanted body hair. The laser emits light that absorbs melanin pigment found in hair follicles; once this light has been absorbed it heats up and damages them causing no new growth from those follicles. Laser treatment is relatively painless; you might feel something similar to rubber band snapping against your skin as the light passes over. Multiple sessions may be required depending on the area being treated.
