should you exfoliate right after laser hair removal

Laser hair removal does more than simply eliminate unwanted hair; it actually influences the body’s growth cycle to encourage natural hair shedding. Unfortunately, tweezing or using chemical depilatory products can disrupt this cycle and prevent laser hair removal from working effectively.

Now, shedding can be speeded up between sessions using the appropriate techniques and products.

1. Don’t Overdo It

After laser hair removal, it is crucial not to overdo things because the area around your treatment site can be incredibly sensitive. Scrubbing harsh scrubs on it will only irritate it further and lead to redness and itching; additionally it is advised not shaving until all redness and itching have subsided before proceeding with shaving the area or using gentle cleansers and moisturizers in subsequent days after procedure.

If you plan to exfoliate, make sure that you use physical exfoliators such as a wash cloth, puffy shower sponge and loofah for exfoliating. Try to do it only two or three times every week so as not to overstretch delicate skin in the treated area.

After laser hair removal, it’s advisable to avoid hot water for at least 48 hours – this includes showers, baths and hot tubs – in order to avoid irritating your skin with hot showers, baths or tubs that may irritate it further and lead to itching. Furthermore, exercise should be avoided immediately afterwards because sweat and friction could further irritate it further.

After laser hair removal, you may notice blackhead-like bumps appear on your skin for several weeks after treatment. This is normal and a sign that the hairs have started shedding naturally from their follicles rather than trying to pluck or wax them out as this could damage follicles and slow down growth processes. Allow the natural process of shedding to take its course; plucking or waxing them may damage follicles and delay hair regrowth.

If your hairs are taking longer to shed than expected, exfoliating and stimulating follicles may help accelerate this process. But remember, laser hair removal is an ongoing journey and patience is a virtue!

Prior to laser hair removal, it is advisable to avoid using any sunless skin creams or bleaching products as these can darken the skin and interfere with new hair growth. Furthermore, other hair removal methods like shaving, plucking and waxing may disturb follicles, leading to ingrown hairs or skin irritation – avoid these too as these could aggravate matters further.

2. Wait at Least 24 Hours

Exfoliation helps rid skin cells that trap hair follicles of dead cells that prevent them from producing new hair growth, making exfoliation essential to maintaining healthy and beautiful skin. But be careful not to exfoliate too soon after laser hair removal treatments, as that could irritate the area further; allow at least 24 hours for healing after laser treatments before starting an exfoliation regimen around them for maximum efficiency and reduced risk.

After laser hair removal, it is also essential that any products used on the area be applied for only short amounts of time, even briefly. Doing so may irritate and sting like sunburn and cause further irritation of your skin. If necessary, aloe vera gel or lotion should be applied afterward to soothe and hydrate. Likewise, avoid hot showers and baths, saunas and steam rooms in order to limit heat exposure in this treatment zone.

Reduce clothing covering the area where you underwent laser hair removal in order to protect the skin from unnecessary friction during daily tasks like brushing, washing your hair or dressing. If necessary, wear skirts or dresses with slips underneath in order to protect your area and help avoid ingrown hairs from occurring.

After receiving laser hair removal, it is normal for you to experience side effects such as itching, redness, swelling and/or a slight sunburn-like burning sensations during the healing process. These should subside within several days unless they continue persisting – in such instances you should contact a physician for further help.

Pepper spots, also known as hair loss indicators, may appear after laser hair removal treatments. A gentle scrub can speed up this shedding process and enhance the results of laser hair removal treatments.

3. Avoid Exfoliating the Area

After laser hair removal, dead hairs will naturally shed from their follicles over the course of four weeks – this process is normal and necessary in order to prepare your new, healthier locks. These dead strands appear as stubble on the surface skin. This process should help clear away old dead follicles so you can reap maximum benefit from new healthy locks that emerge after laser treatment.

At this stage, it’s essential that the area being treated does not receive exfoliation in order to avoid irritation or sensitivity in its healing process. Scrubs or any other exfoliating products should not be used on this area – use a washcloth or scrub wash instead to gently wipe over treated area several times weekly and hasten the shedding process.

After your initial shedding has subsided, it can take several months for your hair to completely grow back out. Although darker and thicker in some areas of your body, this is actually good news; this shows that hair follicles have responded positively to laser treatment and have entered a regrowth phase.

Hair grows in cycles, so it may take time for all the old hairs to fall out. To accelerate this process, try stimulating your skin into shedding them faster by applying aloe vera – soothing, cooling, and moisturizing all at once – which has proven invaluable in aiding hair shedding after laser hair removal.

Help your skin release dead hairs by refraining from waxing and tweezing the area. Waxing and tweezing disrupt the hair growth cycle and may cancel out laser treatments; leaving follicles susceptible to hair regrowth that makes subsequent treatments less effective.

Further, it’s essential that the area be completely healed before starting shave again, since shaving may cause further irritation or even abrasions to it. A good indicator that it has healed is when touch-sensitive or irritated areas no longer become sensitive or touchable – once this has happened you can safely begin shaving the area again.

4. Apply Aloe Vera

Since it is common for skin to feel slightly irritated after laser hair removal, applying soothing remedies such as aloe vera to help alleviate discomfort may help ease any ongoing irritation and redness in the area. Aloe should be applied within 24 hours after treatment so as to remove heat from the area while also helping decrease any lasting irritation or redness that might linger afterward.

Once your skin has been soothed by aloe vera, gently exfoliate the area using physical exfoliant rather than chemical ones to avoid further irritating it. Apply calming moisturizer to assist healing while making sure to choose one without fragrances which could potentially irritate sensitive skin.

Be careful to avoid rubbing the area after exfoliation as this could cause scabbing which will take longer to heal, potentially leaving scarring behind. In addition, avoid plucking or waxing areas where laser treatments took place as this could stimulate hair follicles causing them to regrow more rapidly than expected.

Avoid hot showers, baths, saunas and heating pads for at least 48 hours following laser hair removal treatment to protect the skin from being irritated and reduce redness and itchiness that some individuals experience post-laser hair removal.

At this stage, it is advised to forgo using any additional products on the skin in the treated area, including makeup and deodorant, since these could clog pores and further irritate it. Instead, only use products specified by your laser technician during this phase.

Keep in mind that your skin may have some “stubble” for five to 30 days post laser treatment; these dead hairs will naturally shed over this timeframe. You can help expedite this process by exfoliating this area a few times weekly following laser treatments.
