What Can Estheticians Do in California

Estheticians work in spas, salons and medical settings to offer cosmetic and therapeutic skincare services for cosmetic or therapeutic reasons. Their offerings depend on which state they reside.

Although Estheticians may perform waxing and other treatments, it’s wise to check with your state board first in order to establish which services fall under their scope of practice.

HydraFacial

HydraFacial is an innovative facial treatment that works to exfoliate and clear away blackheads without irritating skin, taking only 30 to 60 minutes in total to complete. Unlike traditional facials, which may require downtime for healing purposes after use, HydraFacial does not necessitate any downtime for recovery and is pain-free!

HydraFacial facial treatments offer a great multi-modality solution to address clogged pores, wrinkles, fine lines, brown spots, oily skin and uneven texture issues. Estheticians can tailor this facial experience according to specific skincare needs by adding boosters such as HydraFacial.

Though HydraFacial is considered non-invasive, it’s important to keep in mind its limitations as an option while pregnant or have active rashes or sunburns. Furthermore, those with rosacea or allergies to salicylic acid should wait 24 hours after having a HydraFacial before having laser or chemical peel treatments done so their skin has had time to fully heal from each procedure.

Hydrodermabrasion

At this facial, a vacuum suction is used to gently extract dead skin cells and debris, followed by infusion of moisturizing serum into the skin. This treatment can help minimize fine lines and wrinkles as well as clear up clogged pores.

Estheticians may perform extractions as part of facials or other skincare treatments; however, they cannot use machines that peel the epidermis (the outer layer of your skin). For this service to be completed safely and successfully, a dermatologist or plastic surgeon must be involved – this falls outside an esthetician’s scope of practice.

Estheticians can find work in any number of environments, from spas to salons to medical offices. Their services will depend on state licensing requirements; there may even be specific licenses designed specifically to expand or restrict which services an esthetician can offer.

Lip Injections

Lip fillers can help to instantly add natural-looking volume, balance asymmetrical lips or simply refine the cupid’s bow for a refined appearance. With quick and safe procedures available today, results typically last six months or more.

Consult with your physician about hyaluronic acid-based fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane as the safest way of augmenting lips. This option has become the go-to choice.

Your state may allow this treatment if your training and certification meet certain requirements. Estheticians learn makeup techniques and anatomy, but only allowed to treat the uppermost layer of skin without additional training. On the other hand, Kybella injections should only be performed by medical practitioners or nurses since it’s considered medical service; so always check before trying new treatments in your state.

Milia Removal

Milia are small, painless cysts caused by trapped keratin on the skin’s surface. Although they can affect any type of skin type, newborn babies tend to develop them most often. Milia tend to resolve over time with regular exfoliation and gentle soap washes; regular exfoliation or popping could speed this process along, however picking or popping may result in scarring and infection if done so prematurely.

For effective milia removal, it is advised to seek help from either a dermatologist or trained esthetician. Milia removal involves lifting off cysts by lifting their flap that holds back keratin deposits; this process is commonly known as de-roofing and should only be attempted under professional guidance.

Estheticians are typically allowed to perform HydraFacials and Hydrodermabrasion treatments; however, body contouring treatments depend on individual state regulations. Medical estheticians possess more extensive training and can work alongside dermatologists or plastic surgeons.

Microblading

Semi-permanent eyebrow treatments last up to two years and involve shaping and filling of eyebrows by an esthetician in order to add structure and volume. As part of the procedure, numbing cream will also be applied directly onto the area for maximum comfort during this semi-permanent treatment.

Microblading is considered an aesthetic service and, thus, Estheticians in most states may perform it without needing additional licenses to do so. Before scheduling any treatments in your state, be sure to inquire as to any necessary licensing requirements first.

Estheticians also offer waxing services at salons and spas, one of the primary treatments every esthetician must learn to provide.

Waxing

Estheticians are licensed professionals who are equipped to perform various skincare services. Their ability to do so depends on state regulations and training received at beauty schools; typically working in spas, salons and medical clinics as they offer their expertise to plastic surgeons and dermatologists alike.

Many states permit estheticians to provide basic waxing services, while they may also learn sugaring as a more natural and traditional hair removal method. Medical estheticians may perform more advanced procedures like PDO threads, Plasma Pen (Vampire Facial), or Kybella when they have obtained additional certification; nevertheless, all such services remain medical in nature and must be under the direction of a healthcare provider.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a noninvasive low-level light treatment that has proven successful at relieving chronic joint and muscle pain. Studies show that this therapy can significantly decrease inflammation caused by osteo and rheumatoid arthritis; improve range of motion; and lessen dependence on nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).

Estheticians may provide laser treatments, though it depends on state regulations and personal circumstances. Some states allow Medical Estheticians to offer this service while others may require further training and certification for conduct.

Estheticians use lasers for other procedures like facials and waxing, including extractions to clear clogged pores during facials. Estheticians offer this service at spas, salons or doctors offices – making their services highly sought after among clients.

Plasma Pen

Plasma Pen is an innovative solution for tightening loose skin on the face and neck. Also referred to as fibroblast therapy, this groundbreaking FDA-approved treatment stimulates collagen production to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles while tightening loose skin. Furthermore, it can reduce puffy eyelids, eliminate drooping bags under eyes, stretch marks, seborrheic keratosis (small bumps on skin) as well as acne scarring by stimulating collagen production and tightening loose skin on its own!

An esthetician will first apply prescription-grade topical anesthetics to your skin before using a plasma pen, then it uses fast pulses of heat and nitrogen to zap your epidermis with micro carbon crusts that eventually fall away after just days revealing newly refreshed and tightened skin. These tiny carbon crusts and scabs, known as Echars, look similar to sunburns but without bleeding or any permanent changes.

Hyaluron Pen

Hyaluron Pen is an innovative injectable filler tool that replaces traditional needles when it comes to injecting hyaluronic acid fillers into skin tissue. Utilizing pressure technology, it delivers nanoscale molecules directly into skin.

Hyaluron injections can be administered into the upper layer of dermis known as papillary dermis to plump lips and minimize wrinkles, and are considerably safer than traditional filler injections as there are no needles present to puncture nerves or blood vessels.

TikTok users often share this noninvasive treatment, but it’s important to remember that hyaluron pens aren’t subject to FDA or hygienic regulations, so sharing or using on multiple clients increases risk of infection – this could cause scarring, swelling and bruising if shared between multiple individuals or bruised areas like eyes or mouth are affected. Additionally, the treatment should not be applied around sensitive areas like eyes or mouth as the pen should only be used on sensitive spots like those around eyes or mouth as this could potentially harm.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal treatments at our Northern California medical spas from Napa to Fresno reduce unwanted body hair by targeting melanin in hair follicles. When light energy from a laser strikes this melanin pigment, heat energy heats it up and destroys its root cause – stopping any further production of hair from that follicle.

Hydrodermabrasion and Microblading can both be performed by licensed estheticians to address acne and wrinkles respectively, although they may not be equipped to perform Milia removal as that requires puncturing the skin.

Most estheticians are also equipped to provide waxing services; in fact, if you’ve ever visited a salon for waxing services then an esthetician likely performed your treatment. Furthermore, many estheticians are skilled in numerous other hair removal techniques in addition to waxing; although in certain states special certification such as bloodborne pathogens training may be necessary to offer this service.
